Client: Somerville Arts Council
Year: 2025
Website: somervilleartscouncil.org
Project Overview
In the spring of 2024 we were asked to complete a Drupal to WordPress migration that had begun in 2023. The previous website had been built 10 years prior, and Drupal 7 was quickly approaching its end-of-life in January 2025. We created a new visual design, replaced the theme, developed new templates, configured an events system, and massaged the Drupal content to work with WordPress.
About the Client (Somerville Arts Council)
From the Somerville Arts Council website: “The mission of the Somerville Arts Council is to cultivate and celebrate the creative expressions of the Somerville community. Through innovative collaborations and quality programming we work to make the arts an integral part of life reflective of our diverse city.”
Assets

The homepage. The top spotlight area dynamically displays events from the events calendar, arbitrary pages that have been promoted to the homepage, and spotlight content blocks. Other parts of the homepage dynamically display content, such as the events section and artists of the month.

The generic subpage is the default webpage template for displaying content on the site. Navigation up to four levels deep appears in the right column.

The event detail template for desktop devices. This template was customized via Events Manager.

The event detail template for mobile devices (truncated). This template was customized via Events Manager.

The program index template (desktop). Many of the programs have past events associated with them. The old site required creating a new page for every year of events; the new system collapses them into an easily browsable format via a pull-down menu.
